Lighter Fluid and Mothers
Hi All
Just wanted to let you know about this. I read on a different forum about taking 2 cans of lighter fluid and running it through the changer. I got some black yuck out of it. Then you run some 30wt oil through till it starts to drip out the bottom. My 1988 Sierra had never been cleaned. I played it a lot and always thought it played fine. Let me tell you, after this cleaning it is soooo smooooothe!!!! WOW! Just like new again. Then, I don't remember where I read about Mothers for cleaning aluminum but I got some and again, WOW!!! You just wipe it on till it turns black, no rubbing, and wipe it off. I have my 14 year old guitar shining and playing like NEW!!!! I can't believe it. So easy and so good. Try it, you'll like it!
The most difficult part of the whole thing was finding the lighter fluid. I was all over 3 states trying to find it. Didn't have it at K-Mart, WalMart, Chiefs, etc... I finally run across some at a little Mom and Pop gas station/conv store.

Probably belongs in Pedal Steel, but while on the subject of Mother's Polish, I've used it in conjunction with a Dreml tool buffing wheel to remove the shallow ridges worn into the changer fingers by the strings. One has to be careful and maintain the proper radius, but there is enough abrasive action in the polish to take out 'small' ridges.
