Go to Steelradio .com starting tomorrow and you will be able to hear performances, interviews, etc in real time from the ISGC. You will probably have to download something to get set up, but it will all be there as it happens...

THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME THING IN THE WORLD!!

Right now, I'm listening to Herby Wallace's set - LIVE!. Can this really be true or an I dreaming?

And this is a freebie?? I can't believe it!! I feel like I'm there! I'd be happy to pay for a "weekend internet pass" next year (note to Scotty...).

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Scotty and his technical team for bringing this to us! We'll be listening all weekend in my house!

Best, -Dave

Yes, Lloyd sounded great he`s in a dimension of his own. I was blown away by the sound of his SHOBUD. Image

John I asked the same question about the interviewes via Yahoo messenger and was answered that Scotty was the one who schedules them.

Not only Lloyd, but also Don Helms had a tone that´s out of this world. I must say, the two of them playing Hank Williams tunes (I knew each and every one) ranks among the most beautiful music I´ve EVER heard. Surely a memorable performance. Ol´Hank must have been smiling down on them. And after that, I got to hear one of my personal heroes, Ralph Mooney... they kicked it off with "Rainy Day Woman"- unbelievable!- followed by favorites from all over his career. He sure hasn´t forgotten a thing! Only his set was over all too soon. Right now, Larry Sasser is on playing some beautiful ballads. I´m just glad that circumstances made me stay at home tonight and my roommate isn´t in so I have free access to the computer all night and get a chance to hear this. A big THANK YOU to all who made this possible. But some day I´ll just have to go in person...

Regards, Joe H.

Tommy White's set is great, excellent choice of material, no cliche's or deadwood. What was the name of the second tune? Beautiful! Now he's cutting loose on "My Window Faces South", really outside choice of notes.

I must say that listening on the radio versus live in-the-flesh is a plus for really hearing the players.

So far, Tommy's set was mind boggling. Incredible tone, taste, content. He and Buddy are the tops of the show, hands down.

The swing cats steeler's name is Michel Rose-they and the singer they brought with them (Felicity) are huge in Australia-and put on an awesome show last night and tonight. they got 3 standing ovations from what has to be the toughest audience on the planet. They have CD's here for sale, I imagine Scotty will have them. Felicity is signed to EMI Australia, and the cats played on and produced her CD. One word-awesome.

John, I saw your post about the interviews over our set. Did you not hear any of it except for one song? We just got home and I was looking at the forum, and saw your post. Did this happen to all the players, or just some? I always saw some people at the table that was set up outside the hall, but I didn't know they were talking over someone's set. Seems like maybe they could have maybe taped the interviews with folks, and played parts of them between times when players were setting up. Johnny and I were curious as to what was heard of our set. Thanks...Joan

Joan,
There was a a lot of interveiws during your part of the show. I even sent a complaint to Steelradio.com about this via Yahoo messenger and got an answer. So I didn`t hear very much of what you and Johnny did.

But I think we should not complain too much about this. I`m sure they will come up with a way to do this next time so we all can hear the whole steel sets.

My suggest are that the schedule the interweives in between sets and not over and during a steel players sets. I like to hear what the steel player on stage has to say about the song he`s goona play and all the stories around that......So steelradio.com: let`s do the interweives between sets.

We have to focus the positive: A lot of people areound the WORLD got to hear close to whole the convention LIVE!!! What a kick!

Thanks to Scotty and Family!

Hi Joan,
Yep, I only heard one complete tune during your whole set and that was a vocal.
It was simply a case of bad planning on somebody's part. I may be an odd-ball but i especially wanted to hear all my forum buddies that were on the show. You and Johnny, Smiley, Dave, Jim, and all the others. All you guys are like family to me and it was my first opportunity to hear some of you first hand. If the interviews had been really special, it would have been explainable to an extent. I had no complaint about the interview with Lloyd and Don. It really had substance and a lot to say, but even that one could have been taped and played back in segments between sets. This was supposed to be a STEEL GUITAR convention, not an interview show. Sure, most interviews were interesting, but the way they were presented, took away from the overall effect of the show, not adding to it as it should have been.
It seemed that interviews were presented during the sets of "lesser name" players for lack of a better term. (No dis-respect intended toward anyone)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, this is merely an observation from an old radio pro. I know this must be a monumental task for any one man to undertake as in Scotty's case, but delegate authority to someone who knows more about radio for the broadcast. My hat's off to Scotty because otherwise we would not have been able to hear any of it at all and that means a lot to those of us who couldn't attend.
Maybe next year, improvements can be made to make the broadcast even better.
Enough of my ranting, let the flames begin !!

(from a frustrated and slightly dis-appointed old radio man)

Thanks Dag and John for your reply. I wasn't really "complaining"..just kinda disappointed. I sure thought that the music would be heard. I was going to ask if any of the show that was broadcast was archived, but it sounds like it would be hard to hear much music. I had a great time getting to play anyway. It sure sounded good up there, and we had lots of people come up to us and tell us we were coming out good too. That's always good to know.

Joan-Maybe next year they can tape the interviews in a separate studio and play them back between setups.

They usually have a lull of 10 to 15 minutes between each set and that would be the time to slip the interviews in. I didn't hear you and a lot of other artist because of the Gabbing. Sorry....al

The radio cast is a work in progress, and I'm sure they will be listening to feedback for next year. At least they have it up and running! But yeah, I noticed interviews going on during sets, and thought it odd-but I'm sure they'll tweak that..
