Post by Bobby Flores »

Just thought I'd let everyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area know.....We're recording two live albums for Curtis Potter and Jake Hooker this Friday at the Southern Junction in Rockwall (I think it all starts at 3:00 but call to check). Featured steel players: Dicky Overbey and Jim Loessberg. 'Nuff said!

Sorry I had to miss that one. Image I'll have to wait until next month's Oklahoma show to hear these guys. Image Peggy or Bobby, how about a report on how it went.

Hey Guys - It was a lot of hard work and rehearsing for all of us but it was well worth it. Both Dicky and Jim played their tails off! They both rose to the occasion, BIG TIME. Jim was playing this awesome sounding '64 black mica that is soon to be owned and played by our mutual comrade in arms, Herb Steiner (the SteinerMeister). My guess is that Herb will have to be peeled off of this guitar...it sounds incredibly good. Are you SURE Jim? Dicky was playing my old "Rosie", '66 bolt-down. That horn couldn't be in better hands.

Curtis and Darrell knocked everybody out on several songs together and the great Leon Rausch also graced our stage. The people there definitely got their money's worth between Darrell, Curtis, Leon and my fellow Outsider, Jake Hooker (Hossly Do-Right). The only thing that could've made it better would've been if Mona McCall (my favorite) would've gotten up to sing a few! (I'd love to hear a new CD of HERS sometime soon!). By the way, it is worth mentioning here that Jake's most recent CD, "You Had A Call" is one to get! It features the great Bob Moore on upright bass and Dicky on steel. What a combination. Incidentally, Jake's dad Tom Hooker did one heck of a job on bass at the Junction as well. Tom's also a knocked out singer himself. Smiley (legend) and Jeff did their usual outstanding jobs on drums and Floyd Domino shared his incredible talent on piano with us. Floyd is the coolest. Also, I was honored once again to share the stage with my good friend and one of my fiddle mentors, Reggie Rueffer who also did an incredible job. What a musician. I want to play double-stop parts like him when I grow up! Needless to say, it was a blast.

I have to admit that by the end I was out of gas for the most part (chart-drunk) but enjoyed every minute of it. Our Executive Producer, Steve Reed, has managed to capture a lot of magic on his Southland Records label on not only this project but several other ones as well. It takes a lot of hard work and planning (and money!) to pull these things off right and Steve has done an outstanding job of making it happen over and over again. This is yet another project that'll be yielding several more great moments for those of us that enjoy true country music. Thanks Steve for all your efforts and leadership in promoting real country and real country artists. Thanks also to Rob Dixon for all the work he does recording us both live and in the studio.

By the way, it was great to see Larry King and John Terry down from Missouri. John is making some incredible fiddles these days and I am honored to own one of his beautys myself. Hope to see you guys again soon.
