Introducing LARRY SUTPHIN

Post by Jerry Hayes R.I.P. »

I'd like to introduce everyone on here to my "Older Brother" Larry Sutphin! Larry's kind of a shy guy in a way and monitors this Forum all the time but never posts. He's the premier Steel Player in the area where I live and has been for many years! He is the first call when a session's happening or when a band needs to be augmented by steel for a special occasion. We work together 3 or 4 nights a week in a band called the Legends and specialize in Classic Country but he's at home in any type of music. We're trying to get him to start coming to some of the steel shows and get known as he's a 1st string player for sure. You can get a little more info about him at our website for "Steel Guitarists of Hampton Roads" which can be found at: www.evertize.com/sutphin. Larry is retired and is a great vocalist as well. He spends most of his days playing a single gig at some retirement homes in this area for the senior citizens who can't get out to hear music anymore! He plays a D-10 Mullen through a new Nashville 1000 Amp. In closing I'd just like to say "Larry, if you're gonna keep playin' my licks, you'd better clean 'em up!" Honestly, the guys a monster player and needs to be heard!

I met Larry in Virginia back in 1995 while I was attending an advanced Military musician course at NAB-Little Creek.

He let me sit in and we had a blast. I am sure he will remember it.

It was also the first time I ever saw a Marrs Cat Can...I think he had one there.

I always remember how nice he was to us Army Musicans that were visiting!!

Welcome Larry!!!!

I first met Larry when he pushed pedals for Patsy Mitchel and Keith Thompson. I sat and couldnt beleave my ears what came out of his "Emmons". thats been well over 20 years ago, and just like a fine wine,,,only gets better with age. not just his styles, but a down to earth person and a pleasure to chat with. not affraid to show or tell you how he pulled that last lick !!!!!! Welcome Larry and hope to hear from you.

Larry was back at the gig last night and I'm back on guitar again but at least one good thing. "Everyone" there told him that the steel player last week (ME) was a whole lot better looking!!!
