Need new pick-ups sometimes?

Post by Johan Jansen »

On one of my steels I have GL E66 pickups,
I notice that after playing it for 7 years, they get more and more microfonic. Is this a normal process? Do they need to be refreshed?
My other steel has Bill Laurences, they don't have that problem. Please some advice and experiences, Thanks, JJ

Microphonic pickups are usually a result of the wires becoming a bit loose. It's resolved by "potting the pickup". That's a procdure that involves dipping the pickup in molten wax.

Very common, any good standard guitar shop should be able to help.
