QUESTION for Jack Byrd and brother Jerry Byrd
After having viewed the Ernest Tubb life story by way of the 1947 movie Hollywood Barndance that featured among others, the famous steel guitar virtuoso JERRY BYRD...
a number of questions have arisen.
Having played c/w music for a lifetime, I've learned that all too many times, we musicians have had to tolerate the likes of non-talented (or, atleast talent-challenged adults..)sharing our stage. From knife swallowers, dap dancers, gymnastic performers to baton twirlers with fire on both ends of their whirling sticks....... we've had to sit there covering/protecting our cherrished/valuable guitars
In the aforementioned movie, there was a similar act, a slightly overweight gal in go-go boots who was a lariette twirler..... Gee's! Who was she related to? Anyone know? What a talent! Was Jerry truly clutching his Rick in fear or amazement!?
Unless I'm mistaken, one of the few lines uttered by Cowboy hat wearing Jerry Byrd.....was "Mar said it was arsonine!" This was in relation to the church having burned down. Was that a classic JB adlib?
But the most important question of all...
like most others viewing this block buster movie.....I got caught up in the story line and just have to ask? In the car pulling the trailer scenes, where the car ultimately crahes into a tree and all.....was Jerry's Rick Bakelite in that instrument trailer or were we just supposed to "think" it was there. Some mighty outstanding driving.....
And lastly, if Jerry had his choice...would he prefer to wear another big cowboy hat, or like in the Marty Robbins movies of "the Drifter".....would Jerry really prefer a "sailor hat"???
For those of us that have followed Jerry throughout most of his musical career, the above questions, to my knowledge, have yet to be answered by the main man, Mr. Jerry Byrd.
Now Jack.....PLEASE keep this writers' identity a solemn secret. Okay? Jerry's loyal fans must know the answers!!! That's just the way it is.

Well Ray it took a while to get an answer from Jerry. I think you will be disappointed. He said this.
I don't remember a d--- thing about it. He said the location shots were all done first and and then you move inside for all the other stuff. It is so chopped up doing it you don't know what goes where. You do little segments at a time. That's how everyone remebers their lines.
I remeber the church buning. I guy built a minature church that was set on fire, or at least to the veiwer it looks like its on fire. He said they squirt some stuff out of a hose that looks like fire but nothing really burns. I remember the car wreck or that there was a car wreck and that is about it. He also said after you have been in a movie and see how they are make one you don't really have a desire to go see one. Now this thing was made in 1947 and what they can do today with computers and everything else that has advanced since then would be mind bogeling to me today I would suppose.
