I know alot of things have been said when he passed away but I felt I'd have to post this today.
I've been listening to the "Brisbane Bop" CD ever since last Sunday, so I got an extra heavy dose of his playing ( plus the fabulous 6-string work of Jimmie Rivers).
I think back then, Vance was a good as any top player, anyone into C6th, western swing and jazz should check out his work with Rivers and Billy Jack Wills.
Being only 31, I never had the chance to see him play but the few recordings I have make me say : He's one of my all-time favourite steel player , right there in my TOP 3 with Buddy Emmons and Bobby Garrett.
Sorry if I occupied this webspace but I felt I should tell this to the guys not familiar with his name.
