Can't get computer to recognize Mike or Inst.
I have tried checking all the usual, volume settings etc, but still won't recognize, Inst or Mike. I have a Hp 2006 windows Media Edition bought new in April.
Maybe I will have to contact HP or Best Buy where I bought it...al

Go to the Control Panel/Sounds Speech and Audio Devices/Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click the Sounds Tab and make sure your sound card is selected as the default device.
If it's OK there, uninstall all the sound in the Windows device manager, then restart Windows and it will be detected and reinstalled (refreshed).
Another thought, you MUST have a "computer mic" and the Line Input must be near "line level", not "instrument level" as that is too low for the computer. Same way with the mic input, a regular P.A. mic's volume level is too low for the PC.

Here's the link to "Audacity". It's a good and free recording program.
