multi-function printer recos?

Post by John McClung »

I need an MFP, chiefly to photocopy tabbed songs for my students. But would also like it to do great color scanning, color printing, and be zippy. My meager research shows HP printers to be way faster than Epson, which I've favored for years.

I'm on a Mac in OS 9.2, but moving to OS X Tiger and a new Mac fairly soon, so MFP must work in OS Classic, then in OS X.

Thanks for y'alls input.

I just recently bought an Epson RX700 AIO and it is doing great for all printing and copying. The Epson will also print directly on (ink jet printable) CD's and DVD's. It even has a standalone function that will scan and copy the label on a CD or DVD.

Jack, how fast is it at making a color and b/w copy off the glass? You like it for printing color photos on glossy paper? How costly are the inks? Tks.

Here is the description and specs from the Epson site. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=53540921

I haven't actually timed it but 8X10 color prints much faster than an older Epson and HP that I had.

I bought a couple Black ink cartridges and they were $14 each. It has 6 cartridges and they are accessed from slots in the front of the printer - don't have to open the printer to change them. It will print from standard paper in the front, like an HP, or you can load other types of paper/envelopes, etc into the back and print from that.
