M4P file player and convertor

Hi!

I have a record album saved on disc as an M4P file. But, my system doesn't recognize that file type to play it.

Is there a program out there that will read it, play it, and convert it to MP3 or WAV (hopefully a free program

)!

This the info I found with a search:

AAC(Advanced Audio Coding, commonly referred to as MP4)was introduced by Apple . Because Apple used a proprietary file format, they were able to limit how each file purchased on their system was used, which meant a single user could not purchase a song and share it with others .

Along with this digital rights management system, Apple also made claims that the sound compression technology was superior to the old MP3 format. While the technical data may support this claim, the reality is that most listeners don't have the playback equipment (speakers) or the ears to tell any difference.

What is relevant about music purchased on the iTunes system in AAC or MP4 format is that it can only be played back in the iTunes software or on an iPod, while the MP3 format is supported by all music devices (including the iPod).

NCH switch will convert aac files to other formats - have a look at http://www.nch.com.au/switch

and it's free.

Colin, I appreciate this info. I use switch to convert wav to mp3. I have never had an AAC/mp4 to convert, so, I was unaware that I could convert the MP4s.
I use Nero, which will convert to MP4, but you have to purchase an add-on after the trial period expires. I just use the universally accepted mp3 format.
I like switch because it works directly from windows explorer. Just right-click on an audio file and there is the "convert with switch" option in the menu. A great, yet simple, tool..... and free.

Thanks for the info, John. I downloaded that program, but when I click on the M4Ps to convert them to WAV, I get an error message. Have you tried it by chance? Perhaps I'm missing a step somewhere. Feel free to email me.
