Can MS Access recognize CD disc info?

Post by Jeff Strouse »

Looks like there are several music cataloging software programs on the market that will recognize your CD and auto-populate the info into the correct fields. To save me a lot of typing, can this be done somehow through Microsoft Access? I'm thinking of using Access to catalog my music collection, since I already own it, rather than paying for another program. But it might be worth paying if Access doesn't have a feature to recognize discs.

Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated!

You would need the specialzed program to do that. Media players access on-line data bases to get info for commercial CD's.

With Access, you would have to create your database (the fields you want in the database) and then manually enter the data.

Yuck, lots of typing! Image

Microsoft needs to add that feature, since making Music Databases can be a pretty common activity in Access. A lot of beginning computer classes use the good 'ol assignment, "Make a Database of your Music Collection".

Even on CDs I've made from LPs and cassettes, my media players read the track titles and artists that I input for the tracks when I created the CD. This saves soo much time!

Just a thought:
i-Tunes can rip your CD's and accesses the web for info. When i-Tunes creates the library, the library is stored as an .XML document, I believe.
Maybe you can paste this info into your program?

i-Tunes is a free program.
