Biab 2006

Post by John Daugherty »

I have Band-In-A-Box 2004. I purchased Nortons #13 Country Song pack and #6 styles.
I use biab mostly for country music but also like to play the old big band standards which can be done in a jazz format.
I can upgrade to biab2006 for $60. Do you think it would be a worthwhile investment?
I write most of my song files but sometimes can't find a suitable style.

John, I usually upgrade every other year. I have the 2005 version so I won't upgrade until next year.

In your case it may be the time to upgrade, but get the megapak with all the styles "discs".

The new styles are the best ever, I don't know if they are the styles you like or not. This year you can load in several audio files, wma, mp3, kar, cda, etc. Now has asio, I don't see a big use for it in this program. I like the new version but for what I do 2005 was good enough. YMMV.

I didn't upgrade every year but I had vers 11 and vers 12, I have the 2006 version now and also Powertracks Pro 10, which is a great recording program.

But for the price I don't mind upgrading every year when they have the special with more styles. Maybe I'll find some I like....al Image
Merry Christmas.

There is a good use for asio in BB, if you use a midi keyboard or as I do, midi guitar, to input via the thru channel, and want to use a dxi synth such as VST DXI. Without asio, thru will not play in a dxi synth but will play thru the computer's default synth. This is actually a big feature and one we had been asking for.

Howard, I wish the human lifespan was longer so I could learn how to use all those features. hahahaha . I have been writing song files, mostly for my original songs. Sometimes I just like to have a song file for backup on vocals or instrumentals when jamming with friends. The song files I bought from Norton, do not have intros. I have to add them. Maybe I will retire someday(ha,I'm only 68)) and learn to use my yamaha keyboard midi output. I use a recorder and record the instruments on individual recorder tracks which I mix down into a computer. I find this easier than using a mixer in the computer. Two hands on a 16 track mixer works better than a mouse (for me). The sound clips on my website were made with this equipment.
I think the thing I need most is more styles. I can write a song file in a heartbeat.
Thanks to everyone for your input. Keep it coming.
