Spammer active on JBFC web site.

Post by Ray Montee (RIP) »

I'm wondering if our 4,000+ Forum membership
would be willing to work with me on an experimental project. If by chance it should work it would be something that each and everyone of us could use in the years ahead to thward these kind of offensive intrusions into our productive lives.

We'd have to give up thinking/talking steel guitar for perhaps 15 minutes out of our daily lives but we just might possibly discover an effective tool to be used against these low-life suckers who have nothing better to do than mess up the worthy efforts of others.

The Spammer has installed three times now, annonymous postings on the Jerry Byrd Guestbook Page. He then lists about two dozen single words in what appears to be alphabetical order but which are, in fact, LINKS to his site.

My thinking is if we could, on just one occasion, deluge this guys personal site, with lengthy emails, all arriving there at about the same time. We could send all sorts of stuff, I'd imagine???

We have sniffed out all data that applies to this jerk; his name; etc.

PLEASE, I ask of each of you: Take a look at the jerrybyrdfanclub site guestbook and then write me email or whatever with your technical skills/expertise before the mission against him his launched.

DOES THIS SOUND FEASIBLE????

Waiting to hear from you.

THANK YOU for considering this request.

Ray: Sounds like a good idea to catch a bad guy, with one hitch! If we sent emails to the spammer he/she would have our personal email addresses and then.......talk about spam, Gadzooks!

Ray,this spammer hit my site also.Big-Time.He hit it so hard that I had to take the site of the air. This guy ruind a complete good web-site.My closest friend that I have in The states besides farris told me that she was hit by a thunderstorm of cookies.I know for a fact that this spammer is located in South-Africa.I am not talking about any normal spam, but the spam that hit her had other contents.
I think you know what I mean.I worked on that site for days and now it's gone.Shame.But I don't have the time to fix the problem.I have other things to do now.
just wanted you to know that.

So guys and galls........."The European Steel Guitar Forum" is no more.

Did you say that the guestbook spammer left links to his website(s)?

How convenient! Go here with Internet Explorer, place the website in your trusted sites zone, then follow the instructions to add spamvertized sites to the input field, activate, and go away for a couple of days of R&R.

When you return the Spamvertized websites will most likely be offline for exceeding their bandwidth allowances.

Ray, I had a look at the problem and I know about this spammer and the IP address he uses. I signed you very insecure guestbook, offering to help.

Since it's not about 'Steel Players', I'm moving this to 'Computers'.

Netscape, and I would think, most, email clients permit creation of an additional account using a fictitious email address.
[This message was edited by Dave Potter on 11 July 2005 at 06:00 AM.]
