Players in Alaska?

Post by John McClung »

Any steel players living in or near Anchorage or Juneau? I have a new online student from up there, I'd like to have her connect in person with a player up there, show her the basic ropes. She's a newbie. Thanks, y'all.

I only know of that one guy...

Known mostly for his dobro playing, of course, but Greg had already established himself as a pedal steel player a bit before his dobro odyssey became widely known.

This one got me thinking about Moon in Alaska and Stu Schulman.

Moon and I used to exchange messages and email way, way back. Such a nice guy. One night, I was reading and commenting on the Forum and my cell phone rang. It was Moon!

He saw me post something and decided to reach out. He sent me a couple of VHS tapes he made, of him playing to backing tracks. Very nice.

I believe it was his daughter who sent me an email right after his passing.
