Russ Hicks could play with the best of them. I saw him and Laney with Charlie McCoy sometime during the late 1970s and it was Super. He played my 2008 Terry Wood Annual Steel Guitar Show and it was Super Steel Guitar. He was a Great Guy and a Friend of mine. I been listening to his CDs a lot the past few days. Great Steel Guitar Music.

That stirs a memory for me. Russ and I were backstage at the UK steel fest and he was showing me that (or something very similar). He was making the point that speed-picking on the chromatic strings was 'a piece of cake' (his words).
He added: 'You could do that, Roger - it's easy!'
Maybe so, but my hat's off to Russ for pulling it off so effortlessly with You-Know-Who sitting right beside him!
Thanks for sharing: I'd love to see the whole broadcast!

Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!
