I believe I read somewhere (maybe here) that Paul routes directly in, bypassing the loop feature.

There is a way to hook up your cabling that puts the Overdrive straight after the pickup and before the VP - it's in the Benado manual that comes with the Steel Dream! or you can download it from Sage's website.
