My Return To The Steel!

Post by Brett Day »

For the past five years, I'd kinda taken a little break from the steel because I've been playing acoustic jam sessions with the dobro. Now, I'm not one to do the "one over the other" thing when it comes to pedal steel and dobro, because I love playing both instruments, so I've decided to set up the steel to play at home and use the dobro for the jam sessions and church band. There are several reasons I decided to get back to steel and will talk about it-I recently visited the Emmons Guitar Company, where I sat behind an Emmons D-10 and played for the first time in five years, using an Eezzee bar, so soon, I will be setting up my Jackson Blackjack Custom and playing again, using my newest bar coming soon, a Clinesmith polymer bar! I'll mainly play the songs I've heard on the radio, and possibly some instrumentals, and will have a little "studio" in my basement for me and the steel. I first started thinking about it a few days after my birthday in 2021, I guess, but I'd hear the 90s country songs I'd played along with for twenty-three years, and I'd always tell myself if I knew how to set up my pedal steel by myself, I'd do it and play with those songs!
