Echo Plex EP-2 tube echo rebuild

Post by Ken Fox »

Got this as a donation from an old friend on the Forum. It was total non functioning. A lot of old rust and dirt and bad components. Some things I did:

-New four section filter can
-Replaces power transformer, had wrong one it. Was running about 575 volt secondary with center tap. Replaced with a 250 volt secondary and center tap
- replace almost every resistor and cap
-new fuse folder
-new audio out cable
-rewound one of the three tape cartridges with new tape from Echo Fix in Australia. Also from them new belt, pinch roller
-new knobs
-replaced echo volume pot, was frozen
-replaced all input jacks, new neon record lamp
-new grounded power cord
-new grounded AC power cord
-custom graphics overlay as all were unreadable, done by a great and talented friend
-6Eu7 tube
-motor mounts from Canada

You did a masterful job, Ken! I imagine that unit now sounds like it did when it came from the factory (or better).
Maybe I'll get to hear you play through it before too long.

Ken that's masterful work and for sure a labor of love. Seeing those old relics brought back to life is a real treat. Hopefully you will get to enjoy it for a long time.
