Suggestions for pickup for Oahu squareneck

Post by Bill McCloskey »

Just picked up an old Oahu square neck and I'd like to put a pickup in it, soundhole or whatever. Any suggestions?

Fishman Neo Humbucker has worked well in mine.

I like the Baggs M-1 or EMG ACS.

I ended up going with the Baggs M1. Mostly because my local music store had it in stock and could install it. sounds pretty good so far.

The Fishman sound hole pickups work really well for this. Even sounds great going into a guitar amp. I have the baggs too, but imo doesn’t sound as good as the Fishman, and the bass is a little harder to tame.

I also tried on of these plexiglass pickup adapters....

...with a humbucker pickup. It was a cool experiment, but it pretty much wiped out the acoustic sound of the guitar altogether, just turned it into a lap steel.
