Gene Jones
We received a heart felt donation in remembrance of Gene Jones, a wonderful player and active forum member. Gene passed away in 2015, but his web site is still active at http://genejones.bizland.com/ and his prolific writings grace this place. Rest in peace, Gene.

September Song
Thank you for adding me to SGF. I'm Gene's daughter, not a steeler, but a steel guitar has always been part of my life thanks to Daddy.
From mashing his picks onto my 4-year-old sticky fingers an hour before a job, to riding with him to the 7-11 to test tubes for his amp, to sticking a headless Barbie doll to stop the Leslie from spinning in his Cord-A-Vox.
The best gift he ever gave me was asking if he could have a tiny little purse left over from Easter one year, snipping the straps off, and making it his pick and bar holder. I felt like I had really contributed!
Of course, as time went on, the toys got fancier. But in his Rollins seat, which I was looking through before giving it to another steeler, guess what I found? A little girl's "purse" with vintage picks and bar still inside....
My Dad and Mom's love story was one for the history books-63 years. My mother passed away almost five years after Dad on January 28, 2020, and her last night on this Earth was quite long. Hospice was keeping her comfortable, but she was still restless even though semi-conscious.
I got out my smart phone, queued up my Dad's version of September Song, and she passed away peacefully listening to the one person she was so anxious to see again.
Now he's steeling in Heaven, and Mom's doing that little subtle sway she always did as she listens....

Nice story Sharon, I think I heard that your fathers website is still functional, if so maybe you could add it to your posts at the bottom like a lot of members have their equipment or quotes.
I always liked the stories he had of his family during the dust bowl and his early days with Conway.
Have a great holiday!
