That last chord sounds like a M7/9...and Doug is so awesomely musical; always has been and always will be.

To me too, Ricky. It was the conception to use that timbre as an ending and his tricky pedal slight-of-foot that slayed me.

I've been blown away by Doug on numerous occasions, I especially like when he plays Brian Wilson stuff. A secret weapon he has, especially if playing solo, is four total picks instead of three -- he gets 4 notes/chord while most other players get only 3.

And he is quite remarkable on piano as well.

I appreciate the comments and references to all those various recordings of this tune.

The only version I knew was the Dionne Warwick hit record, so I took my steel guitar version from that, but some bugs always creep in when I work out a solo arrangement without referring to to original now & then. It was fun listening to all the various covers on YouTube. The mood of the Shelby Lynne record is great but it's missing some of Bacharach's cool harmonic stuff IMO. Best vocal may be Dusty Springfield but the mix is sure off.

Right, F major 9th. Strum across the bottom 10 strings with AB pedals down at fret 3. Pedal 4 lowers the bottom string a whole step for the low F.

Bacharach was always so original in his harmonic conception and poly rhythms. You inspired me to tackle a few of his tunes on lap steel, Doug. Walk on By lays out nicely in C6th. Terrific playing, man! BTW, Burt is still kicking at age 92.
