Correct me if I am wrong, but seem to recall reading that the blonde Sho-Bud belonging to Pete Drake was originally owned by Buddy. He had carved his entire name into the front apron which was the reason for the personalized leather strip later added by Pete.

True story...when I was working for PD in the 70s,he had the blonde guitar in a glass case in the hallway outside his office...

Wonderful clip paul, twas great seeing buddy on a sho-bud smiling away, looks like he was on C6 and not using any pedals, love that diminshed lick at the end, Buddy in his prime.

He does the tune on E9, and the solo on C6.
The performance is dubbed, but I'll bet BE played it at the taping exactly as he did on the session.

My first thought in seeing that clip was that Buddy is really flexing on the rest of us by performing on a national broadcast while sitting on a piece of the film set.

on the steel guitar workshop photo in guitar player magazine in 1970 he had a sho-bud that was lighter with a fancy inlay. does anyone remember that and better yet have the photo to post?

Thanks Paul...great clip. Say Ricky...Am I hearing amp vibrato while Buddy plays behind Ray on the verses of the Nightlife clip? Whatever it is, it sounds great on that tune. Thanks for that one too.

I read somewhere that the tremolo effect was Grady twisting the volume knob.

Yeah Craig; I just remembered it was a Magnatone; and something to do with Grady; so I figured it was his; but maybe you're right, maybe that was him creating that weird-ass sound in the amp...ha.

Actually, the speed of the tremolo is up and down...

...and I always heard Grady sat on the floor and turned the"speed"knob on the tremolo back and forth to make this happen...

Studio lore...I love this stuff!
