Who's the steeler on this Bonnie Owens record

Post by Dave Harmonson »

Anybody know who's playing steel here with Bonnie Owens? It's definitely got a Ralph Mooney vibe but it sounds a little fatter to me than the tone he was known for in '67

It is listed as Ralph Mooney in the credits below the video. With Merle Haggard and The Strangers listed as the band,There is a couple licks, phrases and tone that sound a lot Norm Hamlet.

Funny this was posted on FB Pedal Steel page listed from the album and my phone doesn't show the comments or info so I missed the credits.
I would say Mooney is correct

Steel on Bonnie's record

My guess, Fuzzy Owen, Mooney, or Norm Hamlet. Anxious to find out for sure.

SOMEBODY ELSE YOU'VE KNOWN
Merle Haggard
© Blue Book Music, BMI

I've always been the kinda girl that didn't love a lot
I took love and all its happiness with ease
It didn't make much difference if they loved me or not
I'd tease 'em for a while then I'd leave

I can't believe it's really me hurtin' like I do
Just because you left me all alone
I've seen it happen many times to other girls you knew
Surely I must be somebody else you've known
[ steel ]
I knew the thrill of loving you impressed me more than some
So I should've took the warning way back then
But I never stopped to think that even my day had to come
And like the other girls I want you back again

I can't believe it's really me...
Oh I must be somebody else you've known

Mooney It's from the album All Of Me belongs To You. Mooney
