NY Times "Best Classical Music of 2019" - Columbia Icefield

Post by Susan Alcorn (deceased) »

This last February, trumpeter Nate Wooley's "Columbia Icefield" project (Nate Wooley, Mary Halvorson, Ryan Sawyer, and myself) performed in NYC at a giant art space called Pioneer Works (we're up there with Yo Yo Ma!).

Here is the article from the New York Times:

and a short video:

Did the guitarist break her high E string?

Thank you Jack, Jim, and Jack.

And Jack Hansen, to the best of my knowledge, no E strings were broken or abused in the making of this music.

When I watched the video the first time, it looked like there was something dangling from the bridge area on the treble side of the lower bout, and there didn't appear to be any windings on the tuner post on her Guild's high E.

The Times would not allow me to view it a second time without subscribing.

Thank you, Dale, although comparing my projects with Yo Yo Ma is probably like comparing a perfect filet minon and a peanut butter sandwich (though hopefully with some decent peanut butter).

Jack, you have good eyes. I looked at the video too and thought, "My God, he's right! How could I have not noticed that at the gig?" But then I kept looking. If you watch the youtube video link in the post, and go forward until about 4:15 or so, you can clearly see the string.
