RIP Frank Arnett

Post by Jim Hoke »

The Nashville Musicians Union just reported the passing of steeler Frank Arnett, whom I had the pleasure of working with in Oklahoma City in the 70's. Frank was a unique character - irreverent, opinionated, articulate, and he played amazing stuff on his Fender 8-string, with a beautiful, bright Mooney-ish tone. Another originator gone...

Sorry to hear this. Frank was a great player and a nice guy. He was also an electronics wizard. RIP my friend.

I was able to listen to all 12 tracks of his Model T album on Soundcloud today. I just typed in his name and found the album. Great player for sure. RIP. Frank.

I posted on Gone Home when I learned about Frank. I was just learning pedal steel when Frank played with Bob Woods. His style was so different to the Nashville style that I was attempting to learn. He was nice enough to show me several things on my guitar even though it was not set up like his. Jim is accurate in describing his personality!

I was only about 23 yrs old when I would go to a club in San Diego and see him play with Gene Davis around 1975. I actually got together with him for a couple of lessons at his friends house, I think Frank was between Oklahoma and Ca because he had OK license plates on a "big" sedan (maybe a Cadillac?) The main reason for this post (I'm new) missed this topic earlier, I had looked him up on-line and very sad to hear he passed. It's seems nobody posted a thing about his playing fiddle also and I remember him playing a "very nice" version of OBS at the club mentioned above!
