Frank Baum RIP
I just learned the sad news that German Steel Guitar Legend Frank Baum passed away after long-term illness on September 12, 2018.
Frank started his musical career in 1953 and became one of the legendary musicians in Germany. Master Player, studio musician and leading in building steel guitars like the Framus and ABM guitars. He recorded with the Who is Who of German Pop and Country Music but also with artists like Dave Dudley, Boxcar Willie and Rosanne Cash. He led several groups, such as the "Kilima Hawaiians" and "Country Green".
In his later years, he partially relocated to Hawaii where he had regular appearances on Radio and TV ("Palani" being his Hawaiian name). He was in declining health in his last years and passed away in Regensburg, Germany at age 82 due to complicated heart conditions.
I have some fond memories of him, playing together at some steel shows in Austria, especially the first one I ever did in 1995.
Farewell, my friend!
