Gary Faile

Post by Tommy Detamore »

I just got word a little while ago that my friend Gary Faile had passed away. Gary played drums for many years with Moe Bandy and we rode many a mile together. He was my best man when my wife and I got married in 1985.

Gary was the son of Tommy Faile, who was a singer-songwriter and TV and radio personality in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Tommy wrote the song "Phantom 309" that was a hit for Red Sovine, and was covered by several other artists including Dave Dudley and Tom Waits.

R.I.P. old friend....

Must be a tough loss for you and Sandy. And what country music fan could ever forget Red's "Phantom 309."

Tommy, I just read your post on Gary. What a shock. We did so many Moe and Joe shows and I always enjoyed Gary's playing and friendship. I will certainly hold the many memories of those times in my heart. My prayers go out to his family. RIP old friend.

Gary used to do support jobs and sound for the Johnny Bush band when I was on the Bandoleros. Always a cool hang to have on the bus. Rock on, Gary.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
