Even more 'Who's the steeler'?

Post by Alan Bidmade »

I came across a tune called If You Only Knew. Not the Shinedown version.
Lyrics begin-
"If you only knew
How much I love you
Then you wouldn't cry
When I say goodbye"

Lovely steel ride and solo.

Anyone know the singer/steel player?

Allmusic.com lists about 1000 singles for this title. Was it sung by a man or woman?

Hi David
Male singer, acoustic guitar, sparse backing but really nice pedal steel!
I have an mp3 file but no details at all.

I have an mp3 file . . .
If you'll upload that audio file to https://instaud.io/ and post the link here, we'd stand a better chance of helping you.

Shazam tells me it's Dave Alexander, from his Tango In Durango album.
I haven't been able to confirm it, tho'.

If the song you're referencing is the version by Dave Alexander, it could be Maurice Anderson. That would explain the great steel. David Wright will know, for sure.

Thanks guys!
I note Dave Alexander's song on Tango in Durango is called 'If only you knew', while (I assume) the song I'm chasing is 'If you only knew'....
