Jimmie Crawford & Russ Hicks: "Rhode Island Red"

Post by scott murray »

this is a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone has recording of Crawford & Hicks performing this tune live? it's been one of my favorite steel instrumentals since I heard it.

I love the CD version but I think the live arrangement was slightly different and I'd love to hear it again

You might check with Bill Ferguson. He filmed a lot of performances at the ISGC in St. Louis. Crawford and Hicks shared the stage together and it was always great pickin'. One of my favorite spots to see at the convention.

Another one they did was "Steelin".

well thanks to Bill Ferguson and Jerry for the suggestion, Russ and Jimmie's set from Knoxville '96 featuring Rhode Island Red (at 21:30) is now available on youtube for everyone to enjoy. they close their set with Steelin, Jerry :)

do yourself a favor and sit back for 30 mins or so to enjoy the brilliance and humor of Crawford and Hicks, not to mention the jaw-dropping picking throughout. these guys are on another plane:

Hey Scott. I think we were at that show. If I remember correctly it was a good one too.

I had a lot of it on cassettes which are long gone. Bill is the guardian of an absolute treasure trove. sure is nice of him to keep releasing this stuff to the public when he can find the time. it's a labor of love
