Jean sang with her arms behind her.
She was signaling the band with her fingers the Nashville numbering system chord they were playing in.

I always thought she was signalling the band the tempo.

I played steel for Jean on one of her shows a number of years ago. She would flag the drummer for tempo with her hand behind her back.

Thanks. I have seen the time I would like to flag him.

I played bass for Rose Maddox once. She would gesture, but her fingers told the band what chords to play via the Nashville numbers.
