brand of Steel

Post by Brad Malone »

What brand of Steel did BE use to record his "Swinging Our Way" Series? Reason for asking is; that on this Series he used 7 knee levers and I never seen an Emmons Push pull outfitted with 7 knee levers.

It could have been one of these guitars, Emmons, Derby, MCI/EMCI or a Sierra.

It's probably fairly common. Jimmy Crawford used to install his "Crawford Cluster" on push pulls that had 10 knee levers.

Buddy probably has at least 7 on his push pulls. I know he has a center cluster of 2, maybe 3 on his C6 neck. Add that to the 3 on his E9 left leg and the 2 on his right leg, and you have at least 7.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro (D tuning), Recording King Professional Dobro (G tuning), NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.

I asked Buddy about the Swing Series CDs, most were recorded with his MCIs. The last was with the Derby!

Swinging Our Way

Post by Brad Malone »

THe "Swinging Our Way" book has his setup as 7 knee pedals,,,he raises his two high C's to C# on the C6th with the same knee lever he lowers his 2nd string on the E9th to D/C#, he also raises his 4th string A to Bb with one Knee lever and lowers his 4th string A to Ab with another Knee lever. On his 4th pedal he raises strings 2 and 6 from E to F and he lowers his third string C to B with the same knee lever he lowers his 6th string G# to F# on the E9th...very nice C6th set-up for playing all the big difficult chords....Thanks for all the replies...I guess he really liked his MCI steel.
