Edinburgh, Scotland, anyone?

Post by Jim Cohen »

I think we have at least a handful of Forumites from Edinburgh. Wonder if any can give us some advice about where best to stay for 10 days during the Edinburgh festival in August? There are some places in AirBnB that look nice enough but I don't know if the areas are good, and what it's like getting to the festival locations in town from there, etc. If anyone would be willing to advise me on this, I'll PM you rather than continue in this thread.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Hi Jim, Accomodation in Edinburgh will cost you a fortune during the Festival. If I were you I'd stay in Glasgow and travel through every day. The bus from Buchan an Bush Station is every 15 minutes and takes about 30 minutes the Central Edinburgh. The fares are also pretty cheap. Another alternative is to stay somewhere like Falkirk or Stirling.

Jim,
I live just outside Edinburgh in the town of Livingston, West Lothian, 15 miles from the centre of the City. If you tell me what your require, Homely Bed & Breakfast, small Hotel with Bar, full scale 3-4-5 Star Hotel I will put you in touch with a place for you to stay within easy reach.

I visit the Festival every year myself, you can see some street scenes on a few of my Videos.

The Royal Mile is closed to traffic for the duration.

I was there last August with my girlfriend. We stayed in an AirBnB room at Palmerston Place. I remember it being very affordable and nice and we always walked everywhere except one day when we took the bus to the beach in Portobello. Really nice city and tons of things to see during the festival.
