Any of you members live in Marble Falls?

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

I live 25 miles from MF, in Briarcliff. Scott Martin and Danny Hawk live in Spicewood community, about 15 miles from MF.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Lee, I live in Llano about 30 miles away, but I play there a couple times a month. Can I help you? Also Jerry Harkins is about 10 or 12 miles west in Kingsland.

I just turned 63. Starting to look for a good place to move to when we retire. What few relatives we have are in Austin. Our son is in Dallas. My wife and I are all the way down at the southern tip of the state. My wife is still a baby, though. She just turned 60.

Real estate in Marble Falls is reasonably priced. There's great pie at Blue Bonnet Cafe. Killer barbecue at Cooper's in Llano. Easy drive to the wine country around Fredericksburg. We are Episcopalians and there is a nice Episcopal church in MF. Hopefully there would be some picking opportunities in the area.

There's a Masonic lodge in MF as well. Blazing Star Lodge #413. And down 1431 a few miles is Henry Thomas Lodge #278 on CR344 in Smithwick TX, very close to the north shore of Lake Travis. I don't know if Henry Thomas is still active, but I visited their building once, a very historic place. Smithwick is just a rural community now, not much except homes and ranches.

My home Blue Lodge, Onion Creek #220, was chartered in the 1850's, so Henry Thomas has got to be Civil War era or shortly thereafter.

Lee you are right about the Bluebonnet Cafe and Coopers BBQ. There are also 4 good fishing and recreational lakes in the area all less than 30 minutes away. Not so sure about the pickin gigs though. I play with a lawyer that put together a band, then built a dance-hall out of and old barn he had out on his ranch. He only wants to have dances once a month some times with a star and occasionally a private party sometime during the month. We are doing a private party this month on the 18th then playing with Darrell McCall on the 25th. I think Price Porter could tell you about other places. I think he does some one band stuff around town with steel and guitar too. He is a good singer also to go with it. I just turned 81 this month so have slowed down some. I retired from the Llano Opry a couple years ago after 15 years. The old Ramblin' Rose Ballroom in Llano has reopened after being closed for many years. I was with the house band there back in the 60's and 70's I think Gary P. Nunn played there last weekend. I think Herb probably played with him. Hi Herb... Sorry I couldn't make it out. Llano also has a nice Lodge #242. A nice old two story building on the courthouse square. Oh, and Ron Browning is just up the river in Horseshoe Bay.

Hey Don, Did Don Crider play with Frenchy Burke in the past. If so I saw him years ago in San Angelo at a outdoor dance after the Rodeo. Oh Wow, What a picker.

Yeah JR I think Don Crider did play with Frenchy for awhile. He is a monster little picker. I gave him his first steel guitar lesson proabably around 1972. Lenn had someone build a little steel about 18 inches high. He brought him over a couple times, after that he didn't need me anymore. I had the honor of playing with Frenchy several times a couple of Opry shows and two or three dances before he passed. Great showman. Don Crider's dad (Lenn) was also killed a couple months ago in a ranch accident. He was a good fiddle player too.
Danny, I appreciate the invite. I would like to come listen to you guys, but will leave the playing to you pros.

I'm guessing there is quite a bit less cartel activity, human trafficking, and drug smuggling activity in MF, as compared to this area.

Anybody watch Border Wars?

Lee I watch Border Wars sometimes. If you think it's all on the border though check out the drug bust here in Burnet,Marble Falls and Llano... check out Llano County Newswire and scroll down about half way to Jan. 17th and check out all the smiling faces. They busted 17 folks for possession and delivery of meth among other stuff . They all face 2 to 20 years if convicted and I suppose they will be. Right here in the good old Heart of Texas.

Don, we have ole Toliver and Randall Palmore, sometimes Wally Moyers and occasionally Steve Palousek have been known to show up, but you can play me and possibly a few others under the table. We have guys that play different setups that don't mind loaning their stuff out for a tune or two. Just put your picks in your pocket, get in the car and come on. Larry and I talked the other day about getting one together. Watch The Forum.
Lee, we don't usually have a problem with druggies at our meetings, but might be one or two have a little sip of spirits!

Danny, I had the good fortune to meet and hear Randy Palmore a couple months back with Tommy Hooker. They played a private party at the Llano American Legion. Of course Randy sounded great as did the whole band. I don't think I've heard Larry Toliver play steel. I've heard he's a super picker though. I think he was playing guitar when they had a thing in Abilene with Curtis a couple times. Shady Mitchell was there I know. I did meet Larry once at the Llano Opry When Kasey performed there. He's a fine singer also. I've also been on stage with Palucek a couple times when John Schuch had a Texas Steel Guitar show...of sorts. Naw, I won't be playing any of those guys under the table. I'm going to put my D10 Mullen up for sale also my D10 GFI. I haven't done it yet. I had to lighten up the load. Now I'm just playing a SD Zum Encore and a SD Justice Pro-Lite that my wife won in the steel guitar raffle at the Dallas Show year before last. It's my go-to guitar now. I finally had to quit lugging all that extra weight. I've played the Llano and Georgetown Oprys mostly for the last 20 years or so. Who needs a stinkin C6th on an Opry show anyhow..Huh?

My wife's cousin lives in Burnet (durnit) and we'll be visiting late spring. We get to Marble Falls quite a bit.
