Thankful for the Award and to Pedal Steel Guitar

Post by Charley Hill »

Very thankful for this award recently. Clemson University provided a great educational experience after returning from the middle east. And, returning to the the Pedal Steel provided solace and an escape that is pure therapy. Serenity, even.

I wanted to share this to encourage those that are on the verge of giving up: don't. There is nothing comparable to turning on an amp and getting, in my opinion, great music out of single instrument. Euphoric!!

It has been an honor to share some great shows with some of the best people ever, Pedal Steel Players. Starting back in 1988 and going to the St.Louis shows and playing locally, I have been fortunate to meet a myriad of players that have helped cultivate my addiction/love of the instrument.

The admiration and complexity of this instrument has helped in times of needed resiliency.

Pedal Steel players are the SPEC OPS of musicians!

You guys are my family and thanks to many for allowing me to share the experience.

Congratulations Charlie.
That's a nice way to say it, The steel provides you with serenity.
A dobro or even an acoustic guitar with a raised nut are great instruments for quick playing and to go on "serenity patrol", without all production of moving and setting the steel, if you are moving around, like in the service.
"Don't drop your bar!", as Jeff Newman used to say. :whoa:

Thanks Gents. As mentioned earlier, you guys are my family! I don't have much of a peripheral family and going to the shows is much like a family reunion!

I enjoy visiting with each one of you and learning additional information about this fascinating instrument and the history associated with it!
I hope to see you all in Mesa AZ in Jan!

Of all my friends I've made in the steel guitar show community, I'd trust Charley Hill most to have my back when I need him. A real pal to me.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie at the Gulfport Show last month. He was kind enough to bring som speaker cabinets to me that I had purchased from someone. He didn't have to do that, but he did. We had never even met ! Great guy. After talking to him, I felt I'd known him for a long time. Thank you again Charlie, and thank you for your service to our Country.
