Austin steel

Post by Steve Rosko »

I'll be in San Marcos, TX this weekend visiting my daughter at Tx State and would love to hear some good Texas steel guitar playing; either Saturday or Sunday night. Although I don't know them, I've seen Herb Steiner and Ricky Davis' names mentioned often. Are either of you guys playing anywhere around Austin this weekend? Anyone else? On a previous trip my daughter and I met a great steeler playing with Houston Marchman out at Poodies. We had a great time.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Steve, Ricky Davis will be playing with Weldon Henson at Coupland Hall on Saturday night @ 9pm.

Coupland is about 35 min NE (30 miles) from the center of Austin.

Hello Steve, I was that steeler with Houston Marchman that you met on your last trip, glad you enjoyed your visit! It was nice meeting you and your daughter.

Dale Watson is at the Broken Spoke on S. Lamar in Austin, Saturday at 9:30 according to the Austin Chronicle. Don Pawlak will be playing steel, definitely worth the trip. Don't let the towering apartments that now surround the Spoke fool ya.. :-)

Have fun!

We saw Ricky Davis with Weldon Henson at the Broken Spoke recently and they sounded great. Maybe Ricky will jump in and say where they will be. It's worthwhile to hear the band.

Thanks guys. Unless something prevents it, we'll be at Copeland Dancehall. Do you go on right at 9? Should we get there early? Does the band play where the restaurant is? In other words, do folks go early for dinner then hang around for the band?
Thanks,
Steve

The restaurant says reservations are preferred but we've always walked in.
I'll be there for dinner and the show.
The restaurant is right next to the dance hall.

Just want to say thanks, steelers are great people. We had a great time last night seeing Ricky Davis play with Weldon Henson and I don't think it can get any more Texas than the Coupland Dance Hall. Ricky sounded great on his Bud and was very friendly. Also got to meet Michael Yahl, another good guy. We met Bill Terry with Houston Marchman on a previous trip, more great people. Thanks for the tips and hospitality.

Love stuff like this. I always enjoyed other steel players coming out to shows and talking shop.

Steve, it was good to meet you. Hope that you enjoyed one our Texas honky tonks.

We'll see you again in a couple years when you move here.
