Arnett Mills - April's Fool
This is so good. It needs to be posted here occasionally for new members to see and for the rest to enjoy. There's enough good licks here to keep us busy for a long time, and the tone is excellent. Definately one of my favorite players.

Those old Marlins have tone to the bone.

Yes, I have listened to everything Mr. Mills has on YouTube and his playing is exceptional with great tone. I heard he was having health problems and hope he's doing ok. His presentation of a tune is about the best I've heard.

This is a great song written by Kirby/Martin. I think the most common version of it was by Ray Price, I don't know if he was the first to record it or if others recorded it. There is a variation of the song done by Collin Raye, which alhough quite different has many similarities.
I heard Jim Pack sing this song in Fort Worth and he nailed it.

When Chuck and I visit ya next month, we both can assist you with BIAB pending any remaining left over time. Time left over meaning after you've showed me how to play 1/10 of one percent as good as you. If you have any specific questions regarding BIAB, let me know and I will call you in case no one else chimed in.

Wow what tone, did you all watch the movement of his bar hand, his vibrato, that's the secret.
Yes indeed his steel has that great tone, but so does my Franklin, my Zum, my EMCI, my Emmons push pull, my Sho-Bud, my MSA not to mention all the amps & other steel I have owned over the past 45 years.
Neil Flanz use to be my private steel instructor while he lived in Hollywood, Florida. At the end of each session he would play an old country 4/4 shuffle, I just froze at his performance, and yes it was his tone that flipped me out and yes he had an ancient Emmons push pull. I asked him how do you get that tone that I was hearing, he just looked at me and smiled, told me to watch his hands.

Rick - thanks for posting, I was one of the unaware you were thinking of!
The first thing you notice is the intricacy of it all, but that would be worthless without the very clean and precise attack, or touch? Not sure what word to use - but I'm originally a brass player so it's something I observe.

Re: yup
Our recent little jam with Arnett reinforced my opinion that the man simply plays his you know what off. And after watching Mark's vid post, my respect for Arnett increased another 100%, simply because he did a little house cleaning before his song started. Dunno if it was dust or finger prints, its gone....Mark Shuda wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9ejUyrEoaM

Arnett you’re absolutely one of my favorites... Such tasteful playing and what beautiful tone... there is so much worth emulating from your playing, if ONLY I could... Would love it if you’d post more Arnett... even without BIAB
