share-a-lick using 2nd string on E9th?

Post by Wayne Baker »

Hey guys, you have all been so helpful to me. I'd like to ask another favor. I'm getting really frustrated with not using my 2nd and 9th string as much as I should. Any of you have a nice lick you'd share with me? I did the "dang 9th string" string, but I'm hungry for more.

Thanks in advance and respectfully,

For a hot and easy to play lick check out the first four bars of Buddy Cage's classic break on "Hello Mary Lou" - New Riders of the Purple Sage.

It's tabbed at Rebel's 1972 page: http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/1972.html

It's very effective, but be careful to not overdo it. I limit it to once a night and always get approving looks.

Here's one I heard Mike Johnson play going from a 1 to a 4 .
L-lowers 1/2 --- L*-lowers a whole tone

4)__15____________________

Mike played this at the end of turnaround going into the chorus. I recorded some of the You Can Be A Star show that aired in the 80's, just to listen to Mike play.
Hope you like it
Tony

Check out the intro to an old Byrds tune called "Your Still On My Mind" at the Rebel site. It sounds like B and C pedal licks, but when you see what was really being played it'll blow your mind. Here's the url: http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/1968.html

Bob, got that one and practicing hard. Thanks for all your help with my steel playing questions. I know my issues can be frustrating for those of you who are way more experienced.

Respectfully,
