A heart felt THANK YOU!

Post by Jeffery Self »

The family of the late Mr. Larry Self would like to send out a heart felt Thank you to all of you in the steel guitar community for all of your prayers and all of your kind comments. Larry played and promoted the steel guitar for most of his life, he grew up as part of that Mishawaka gang, there's quite a few of you. Later moving to Florida and having "The Music Store" in Debary there for some years. He promoted the steel guitar at every chance, having many steel guitar shows, having the likes of Herby Wallace, Gary "biscuit" Davis, Bobbe Seymour, Harold Fogle, Lynn Owsley, Jeff Newman, Jimmy Day, Roy Rosetta, the list goes on and on. These people always did whatever it took to make these shows happen and did it with grace. All of these guys made this possible for Larry to do, as well as a lot that were not mentioned. I have several pictures of these fine fella's from several of the shows that I would like to share with the steel guitar family, as I learn how to post them! From the whole Self family we want to say "THANK YOU" to ALL of you, and GOD BLESS!!
If it's a penny for your thoughts!!!

It was sad when Larry left us. I'm a colon cancer survivor.

I remember Larry when he had the store and the steel shows in New Smyrna Beach, Fl.

We often corresponded (e-mail) after he moved to Tennessee. The last time I saw Larry was at Bobbe Seymour's steel shop in Hendersonville.

Yes Jack, those were quite some shows at The Elks Lodge in New Smyrna Bch. My fondest memories of those shows was the one we helped Mr. Harold Fogle on stage, he was getting around with a walker at the time, but this guy picked his heart out that day! So smooth. I recall Lynn Owsley that day as well. I think the guy's that really set things on fire then were Gary "biscuit Davis on that fiddle and Mr. Roy Rosetta on the keyboard. Just Awesome stuff man! Larry was the reason I got to meet all these fine fella's of the steel guitar :D As far as those who have been to SGN in Hendersonville, they know now that there is not a place like that anywhere in the world. We all sure miss Bobbe as well. Simply Irreplaceable! 8) 8)
