Pickups = ?

Post by ed packard »

Would pickup info/discussion belong in Pedal Steel, or Electronics?

That has always been a tossup for me, Ed. On one hand, pickups are a part of the guitar, so it seems that they belong here. On the other hand, they are electronic components, so it seems that they belong over there.

In the past, I have let them stay wherever they are posted.

Here's the rule of thumb, though. If you wanted to do a search on a certain subject, which section of the forum would you search first?

I was curious about b0b's question of where one would do a search regarding pickups, so I tried it in both pedal steel and electronics sections of the forum. I found 70 posts listed in pedal steel and 30 posts listed in electronics. I guess if you wanted information on pickups you should search both sections.

Pickups are part of the intstrument even if they generate an electrical signal.
This signal is then interpreted by the electronics components. The exception is if there is an active preamp, or EQ /compresion functions built into the guitar.

I also find interesting the ratio of postings by catagory. I think the above logic explains that.
