I got my lignum vitae wood tone bar from Michael Werner recently, and after playing with it a while I am very enamored of it as a way of changing tone between songs. It obviously doesn't have the sustain or high end of a steel bar, but it has a nice mid-rangey tone and works great with a little distortion for rock leads - think Les Paul rather than Tele.
