Billie Dozier Passed Away Saturday night

Post by Louie Hallford »

Billie has played guitar for many of the top western Western Swing bands in the southwest part of the USA. This included Bob Wills, and Leon Mc Aullife bands et al. Until the last few months he played a regular gig at Pace Setters in Madill OK with local steel play Luther Thompson,a and a band that has been together 20 years or longer. Billie also played a mean fiddle when needed.

Services will be held at his home church ,Hebron Baptist church about 2 1/2 miles north of the the intersection of US HWY 82 and Farm to Mkt hwy 1897 you will find a Hebron Church sign on your right (east) its about 3/4 mile to the church and the old church cemetery. You should also look for Bobby Boatwright's dad and moms grave at the same cemetery if you have time. Many of you will remember Bobby being in the last generation of the Texas Playboys.

So sorry to hear about his passing. I did not know him well but played a couple gigs with him and he was very kind to me. I know the Pacesetters band will sure miss him as well as his family and friends.

Billie was a Western Swing icon here in Tulsa for many years and played with about every local musician and their bands back in the heyday of Western Swing at Cain's. Both he and Eldon were THE guitar players everyone admired.
Truely another legend has left us.

Billy was a great friend and buddy to me. He played for Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Tex Ritter, and Eddy Arnold along with many years in Leon McCauliffe's band. He was a great picker, singer and fiddle player. His passing will leave a big hole in a lot of lives. He was always glad to help us (Doug Martin and the Rustlers) whenever we needed him. We love you and will miss you Billy!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Bill many times. He always had a story about the olden days in the music business. Rest in peace my friend.
