what is the serial number and year of your axe?
Trying to narrow down the manufacture year of my recently acquired D10

Seriously though, you never did say what your D10 serial # is.

How's about a picture before and after for the "lovers" out here......?

Greg Jones would be able to make some inroads to the eventual reincarnation of your Z.B. - he has quite the inventory of stuff.

and no I haven't posted the Sn# because I have been too preoccupied with gazing at her top side to turn her over...

got an out of town gig this weekend, so It will be a few days before I'll see her again

My (limited) understanding of Zane's serial number system is that there wasn't any system.

I have a[n] 11-10 built for me in '68 that is 0013 - a friend (who ordered the same time) has a D-11 that's 0017. Yet I know someone with a D-10 made about '65 that has like a 16XX number. I dunno that the SN has anything to do with build date. Maybe there was some system, but who knows?

Zane started his serial#'s with 10xx, then onto 11xx. I have # 1036, D-10, 1965.

Tom Brumley told me that he and Bill Sims changed the serial # scheme when they got the company. Starting with 0001, 0002, etc.

These first guitars were built in Bakersfield for about a year and then they moved the business back to Phoenix. Zane had moved the company from Phoenix to Scranton, Ark. They did change some of the designs from Zane's original, like pedals, keyheads, endplates, etc.

According to Tom, the 1st Bakerfield guitars were built using the surplus parts they got from Zane, even decals.

Maybe Tom can get on here and shed some light on this.

well, as usual, i'm confused, but hopefully i will get less so. my zb custom d-10 is serial number 1062. twin tailfins, red with silver pin stripes, red knee levers (with white plastic plates glues to the working sides) and red foot pedals (with diamond-shaped surface) and red accents throughout (including the inside of the bar that attaches to the front legs and is the mounting for the foot pedals). is it OLDER than my sd-12, which is a very generic-looking, no-frills black, with plain, unfinished metal side and end pieces and very primitive knee levers and such and is serial number 0043? it has no stickers or markings anywhere, no does it have the lovely tailfins the d10 has. can SOMEONE shine a little light where this dim bulb has failed to self-illuminate? thanks so much (i figure if i can't play them, i at least should KNOW something about them)--kim
