Help With Connecting To My Wireless Router

Post by George Redmon »

I have a new HP Window 7 P.C. computer. I have a DSL modem, and use a wireless Linksys Router. On this new windows 7, my computer {P.C. not laptop} can sense and detect wireless, and it automatically connects me to my router and the internet when i start up my computer. How Do I:

1 Switch it over to use my Linksys table top USB antenna instead of the built in computer one. My signal is better with the extention Linksys USB antenna.

2 Make it so that my computer does not automatically log online at start up. I want to manually connect to the internet.

Did the best i could to ask the questions. George

What is the Linksys USB Model Number?

However, connect it to a USB port and if it is a "plug and play" device, Windows will detect and install it. If it's not plug and play you will have to load whatever Linksys drivers you have for the device. You can then select it as the wireless network device and connect.

As this is a desktop, if at all possible it's best to just use a wired connection to the wireless router. It will be faster and more secure.

Thanks jack, i made my desk top antenna my "Default" way of connecting. All is well now. As far as hard wireing my connection. It's about 50 feet or so away from my router. But i get an "Excellent" signal now. And my security is 35 figures long. So i'm rather safe there. Thanks again for the help.
