Rudy Osborne uses Hughes satellite service. Get a-hold of him for his input.

If you have it wired from the modem to a router, to the computers, there might be a configuration tweak that just might help your throughput.

Log into your router's web interface from a safe browser, which is not open to any other pages. If the browser was open, close it and empty temporary Internet files (cache). Your router should have its IP address on a sticker on the bottom. Chances are it is http://192.168.0.1, or 1.1, or similar.

Once you are into the web interface look through the tabs and options for one that lists MTU. See if it is set to 1500. If so, try reducing it to 1460. Save and reboot the router. If that doesn't help, call for tech support and have them ping your modem. They can tell you what the best MTU is on your router, for their modem, at your location..

My original home is way out in the middle of no-where Il. If not for Hughes net (or some other satellite company) many people would not be able to use the web. In some places the phone lines (the mains)have not be upgraded in 25 to 30 years other than fixing downed lines from ice and such so in the particular neighborhood they can't even use their phone lines for dial-up.

My life long friend has Hughes and as far as I can tell you can purchase different tier levels and the faster you get the more you pay and in his area it maxes out at 128 up and 768 or close to that and it is close to 150.00 bucks but he wants and needs the web and all he uploads are emails so the 128 isn't bad and compared to 28.kbps 768 screams and it's all he's ever used so he's happy.

Hughes in his area uses a special caching application so pages that he visits load pretty fast and only have to update the new material on the page. Of course we can all do that but with my cable I don't bother. I don't know if the caching of regularly visited pages is used in your area but it's a thought.

Get off HughesNet as soon as you can get DSL or something similar from a local carrier. You'll be able to drop your expensive phone line, get Internet and phone for $50/month or less. I have a 12 meg package for less than $50/month. And that's unlimited. Hughes will hit you with FAP if you download any large files. You'll basically be restricted to dial-up speed for about 24 hours. And foget trying phone calls over Hughes. Too much latency.

We built our new house 3 years ago.Comcast ends 7/10ths of a mile away! Had dialup 1st year, Hughes sattelite for 2 years now. It works but is really inconvenient, only 200 mb /24 hrs.If you schedule all your updates for the middle of the night it helps.I finally convinced Comcast to send an engineer down our street to see if they can recoop the expense of cabling..I'll know next week!

Well. I finally went to Comcast after 3 weeks and they decided even though there's 13 households on my street they're not going to extend their line in the near future..They claim it'll cost them $10,000 dollars to run it 0.7 miles!!Stuck with Hughes Sattelite.javascript:emoticon(':(')
