Document Format???

Post by Sonny Jenkins »

A lot of the documents I saved are saved in .rtf format (guess by default??). Seems like when I send these to people they often times can not open them. Is there a way to change formats to a more common one,,,or what is the more common formats??

RTF stands for Rich Text Format. It was originally developed by Microsoft for their Windows Write program in 1987. It has been in common use ever since.

Almost all computers will handle RTF files. In Windows, you can open them in WordPad which is always pre-installed. Microsoft Word also opens them.

On the Mac, RTF is the default format for TextEdit which is always pre-installed.

There isn't a more common format than RTF. PDF runs a close second, but you have to download software from Adobe to read PDF. WordPad and TextEdit are pre-installed on Windows and Mac computers.

If your friends can't open RTF, it's because they don't know what program to use. Tell them to use WordPad, MS Word, OpenOffice or TextEdit.
