Double video on Youtube

Post by Bent Romnes »

All of a sudden, I get a double picture on the video screen with a green line going across separating the double video.
Any ideas, solutions?

It may be a video driver glitch. Restart your computer. Update Adobe Flash, as a new version was just released this week. This is a security update.

Another really beneficial thing to do is to visit http://www.secunia.com and run the online software inspector tool. It will reveal all insecure exploitable software and provide download links for patched updates.

Wiz, I did what you told me:downloaded Adobe flash player plugin 10, 10.2.152.26
I also have Adobe flash player ActiveX of the same number.
There also is Adobe Air...is this one necessary? Does it create problems?

I just tried and I still have the double video with the green line in between.
I also scanned with Secunia and Adobe was the only vulnerable program that was found.

Does this occur on all of your installed browsers, or just one? If so, which browsers are affected?

What else has changed since "all of a sudden" began?

All of a sudden started, it seems to me, after the latest version of Flash player was installed a few days ago. But I'm not sure
I use Firefox as my primary browser. I opened Explorer just now and its the same glitch there.

Even painted gray, it's got a GREAT sound!

But back to the issue...I have done the things you recommended and still have the problem. Anything else I should try?

Are you having any video display problems on any other website, or your Windows desktop, or any installed applications? If so, try updating your video driver.

If nothing else is acting strangely and the problem occurs on more than one type of browser, try running System Restore to a date before the problem manifested itself.

Next, open you RUN box and type or paste this command:
SFC /SCANNOW
and press Enter. You may need to insert your Windows CD or DVD, unless the OS files are stored in a hidden recovery partition.

Next, try running CHKDSK from this path: Start > (My) Computer > right-click on C drive > Properties > Tools > Error Checking > Check Now [check the top box to search for and fix file system errors] > Apply. You will have to schedule the error checking to run during the next restart cycle. So not touch any keys as the computer reboots, or the scan will be cancelled.

If your comp has 2 video outputs, plug into the other one. Try a different monitor. Play around with your display settings. Go to some site that had YouTube video embedded - Facebook, or one of my sites - and see what happens.

Cal,
It plays a video in Media Player ok. It seems to me that it is only the flv(online) vids I have problems with. I have the same problem playing an embedded youtube video - like one of yours on your site.

I just played a youtube video that I had downloaded some time ago and converted to WMV, which played fine.

Filetype FLV is Flash Video. You may still have an outdated Flash component lingering in the Windows\System32\MacroMed\Flash sub-directory. Close your browsers and delete any ancient Flash files from that directory. You can tell the latest ones by their installation date, which should be from last week. Anything form 2010 and earlier should be deleted. Then reboot and try again.

I uninstalled, then deleted leftover files in that folder and downloaded and re-installed flash. That didn't fix it.
Would you say the only other way is to run System Restore? Guess I'll try that next.

Do IE, Firefox, and Chrome all use the same Flash player? For some reason I had thought that each must be updated separately.

No. They are different for each of those browsers. IE uses an ActiveX version. Firefox uses its version. Chrome itself must be updated for Flash updates, as it is integral to that browser (I don't know why).

Afterward, delete any older versions of Flash that are not cleaned up by the installer. The default installation path is (C:)\Windows\System32\MacroMed\Flash\
