Chrome - Does Anyone Like This?

Post by Chip Fossa »

I'm getting fed up, lately, with FireFox.

I've been hearing and reading, a bit, on Chrome.

What are your feelings about Chrome?

Is it Chrommy? Or Crummy? :P

I use Chrome as my "go to" browser. Firefox is slow, IE just plain sucks. I also like Opera and Safari. I have a lot of problems with Chrome when I click on a link to another site, it will give an error that it can't find the link. I hit the "back" arrow and re-click the link, and all is well. That is frustrating. Sometimes for no apparent reason, Chrome just stops working and I have to close it down and start over. But for the most part, it works pretty good.

Chrome is fast and simple. You can type searches in the address bar and they default to Google. There's a few multimedia apps like MLB that Chrome does not support. Setup is simple and options are limited. I run Chrome on all my home computers but keep Explorer/Firefox handy for the few sites Chrome can't run.

Thanks ever-body, so far.

Chrome sounds like a winner.

Just now I tried to print my BILLING page from Vonage, and FF crashed [after an error flag popped up], and of course, NO PRINTING resulted.

I rebooted, and it did it again.

I'm gonna go and get Chrome, now, after this FF fiasco, and see if I have any better luck. May get Safari and Opera, too. Who knows?

Chrome produced the same results. The same problem happens both in Chrome and FF, now.

Maybe it's Vonage, or Irfanview.

I can NOT print MY FU*&&^^%$#$#@ page. I need to print this out for fuel oil assistance. All info is due on TUES; 12/7/10.

I don't give a shiP how it's done! Help me!

Here's what I've been getting:

I ran Malawarebytes and a redundant Trend
Micro FULL scans. All came out OK.

In a browser you could try File/Save Page As..
Maybe you could print the saved page, or turn it into a PDF or something.
Maybe a screen capture.

Cal#,

I took a pic with Mr Snappy [been very reliable over the years] (since 1995).

When I went to print, the same bunk arose.

I suspect Irfan. It's given me problems in the past and that is why I haven't used it, until recent talks about it, convinced me to give it another go.

I can just take it off; no big deal there.

Chrome is pretty good, though.

I went back to a restore point 11/30/10.

All is well, now.

I was able to print out Vonage.

I had another problem [can't quite remember now], and someone told me to try the 'deal' in SAFE MODE. I went to safe mode. It did not solve the issue. But ever since going to SM, things haven't been quite the same. Maybe SafeMode caused all this grief.

Thanks, everyone. I'll try Chrome again, but not until I let the dust settle on this latest farsisorama.

I'm gonna "take it easy" for now, and keep my eye on this PC.

Wiz...this looks like a closer, bud. :o

Chip;
I'm leaving this topic open so you can report back or ask for more help with the crashes your PC is experiencing.

Try clearing out all pending print jobs. Run a full system scan, especially on all of the Windows directories and sub-directories, like the Print Spooler directory (hint hint).

Visit your printer manufacturer;s website and see if they have a newer print driver. This sounds like a print subsystem problem to me.

I downloaded Opera 11.62 and it went bonkers on me. It would sometines not load a site, or gave me half a page and messed up other things too. Finally I dumped it. Later I could reload ver 9.64 and things were cool again. I now have FF, Opera, Chorme and Safari loaded. They all work and it's fun monkeying with all of them.

I remember now what the other problem I had was:

Trying to get rid of the lower window border LEFT to RIGHT bar. (FF).

I uninst/reinst the Kodak printer. But I know there is an update for it (couldn't find it on their website).

The background color on the main page is white.
It was white when I first got the printer. The updated version has a black background.

Kodak is/was pretty good at auto updating. I guess I'll have to go back to the site and try to locate it.

Wiz, I ran a FULL TM scan and a FULL MBAM scan; both showed no maliciousness. Clean.

Thanks Ken for the warning on Opera. I do want to try out these other browsers; Just a tad gun-shy right now. It will pass.
