W7 Update Failure (KB2345886) - twice
I checked my update history and the only other time I noticed a failure was for some 'optional' update.
I've never had an 'important' update failure until now. Windows troubleshooting section is basically worthless. It eventually says to go and ask someone else.
So here I am asking. It failed yesterday and now just this morning.
What to do?

I looked up your failure to apply update KB2345886 on Google and found these relevant topics being discussed, here and also here. The first link shows even more discussions and solutions.

Thanks Wiz...
Those links, as usual, are worthless.
It's still a problem. Many folks on those links stick ice picks in MS/Windows blind eyeballs.
Here is what they say: WHY HASN'T MS FIGURED THIS OUT, YET????????? Once again, just another reason to HATE Windows.

I resolved this update bug.
I went to a restore point, and then went into Control Panel/Windows Update.
I then checked off "Never Check For Updates"!
PC is running much better now.
...I'm a PC dummy, but I have a feeling all these "UPDATES" are baloney. And I happen to like baloney.
I got TrendMicro Pro and a few other anti-this-anti-that programs.
From now on, I'm just gonna rely on these.
And if my little PC world goes to hell one day cuz I didn't keep up with MS-jerk-updates - well - at my age, I could care less.
I got most all good stuff backed up, anyway, on external drives.
So this is the Chip Fossa Pro-PC advanced procedure(s) for coming to terms with Windows Update failures. ie. - JUST QUIT!
Thang you; thang ya' very much.

Turning off Windows Updates, because one lower importance update failed to take, is like leaving your house unlocked because a new key fits too tightly. Your PC will be invaded someday, because you refused to allow patches to be applied that would protect you from new exploits.
I'd bide my time, continue to look for a solution to the failed update, and accept the rest of the successful updates to come.
Not only Windows needs regular updating. Adobe Flash and Reader are big targets, as is Java and Quicktime.

OK Wizardo,
You're the boss.
I just re-instated Auto Update.
I just had to let off some steam.
I just hope that that one update is indeed a fluke, and that this failure stuff will not continue.
There are a lot of folks out there complaining about the same thing. It's just annoying.
I don't have Adobe Reader. Just Flash and Quicktime Alt., too; I do have Java. These programs give me an update notice when they are available.
Thanks again, brother Wiz, for reining me in.

Wiz,
I just ran Secunia and W7 has a problem [Java, too].
I can't download the 'solution' unless I use IE.
I got IE turned off. I don't even know what version it is, too. Why can't Mozilla work?
And you wonder why people get fired-up? Here's, yet, another prime example.
