I was told by the folks at PG Music that Band In A Box isn't compatible with Linux.
Is there a program similar to Band In A Box that is compatible with Linux?
Thanks,
Rick

Band In A Box type program for Linux?
Hi Rick
BIAB is a Windows program & therefore won't run natively under Linux
. I am not aware of any Linus program that comes anywhere close to the functionality of BIAB. However; There is a Linux program called Wine that emulates the Windows environment and allows some Windows Programs to run on a Linux box
.
BIAB is one of those programs but as with all things Linux it's often easier said than done, but you may be lucky and have no problems.
I run Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop machine (home brew) & also on a Lenovo Laptop. Band in a Box works great under Wine on the Desktop Box but at present won't work on the Laptop (need to find out why.
So at present I do the creative stuff on the desktop, save to .wav and playback on the Laptop in Ardour (a very niece Linux DAW).
Its worth giving Wine a try. The other solution is to run a a complete Virtual windows environment such as VirtualBox, but then your still have to install Windows so you might as well just have a Dual Boot system. Hope this helps.

Thank You
Peter,
Thank you for your reply to my question.
I was actually asking the question for a buddy of mine who has a laptop with Linux.
I'll be sure to pass on your suggestions to him.
Rick
