Norton Security scan
Having recently gone to Trend Micro for my security, I now find Norton Security scan on my desktop and every now and then it says I need a scan and have a bunch of things to clean up, but of course it wants me to buy it. Have I inadvertently downloaded this or did it come thru Trend Micro, which seems strange they would add it.

Norton Security Scan is definitely NOT from Trend Micro! It is probably from your ISP. or else from a website you visited and inadvertently agreed to the download.
That scan is an online scanner. It doesn't hurt to have it.

Don't Run It
Ken don’t run it! I was attacked.
Go ahead and run a sweep or scan with the antivirus system you have and trust.
Your system should identify this other product and ask if you want to quarantine it.
Three days ago my screen popped up with what looked like a Windows program, look alike LOGO and all, telling me my system needed to be scanned because it detected a virus.
I knew my antivirus “Webroot” was running just fine so seconds later my Webroot told me I was under attack and took action.
Had I run or even tried to use this so called security system I would have been toast.
A friend of mine got hit the same day. He was not using Webroot and got fried.

The Norton Security Scan link you found on your desktop may have been a fraud, using the Norton name. Norton does have a free scan that is provided by several ISPs. That is obviously not one of them.

Deleteing
Keep in mind Ken that if you just delete something it can possibly do damage to your system.
The best way to remove anything is to use the uninstall program on your computer.
If a program does not provide an uninstall option it most likely won’t bother your system.
So just leave it there it won’t take much space on your hard drive.
Again IF this was an attack your antivirus program should take care of any threats.

I did use the uninstall program with no problem. Just wanted to get rid of it so it didn't come up every time I booted up.
With having Trend Micro, I didn't think I needed another program to confuse things.
In a month, the two desktops with Trend Micro will be shut down for 6 months as we return home to Los Angles. When we return here in April of 2011, I guess there will be a whole lot of updating to Trend Micro to do before we open them up for normal duty.
That means the two machines in LA. will have to have Trend Micro put on them as well. I wonder if they have 6 month license's? Guess I'll have to ask.
